STATEMENT: Rep. Schultz Responds to Gov. Dayton’s State of the State Address

Wednesday, March 9, 2016

St. Paul, Minn. – Tonight at the University of Minnesota, Gov. Mark Dayton delivered his 2016 State of the State address. Rep. Jennifer Schultz (DFL – Duluth) released the following statement:

“Tonight I was pleased to hear Gov. Dayton reiterate what should be the focus of all 201 legislators this session: building an economy that works for all Minnesotans. In order to do that, we need to make strong investments in Minnesota’s future including funding public education (pre-K through higher education), increased access to high-speed broadband, addressing racial inequities and funding for our crumbling transportation infrastructure.

“In addition to these long-term goals, I stand with the Governor in his call for a clean bill providing extended unemployment benefits for the out-of-work steelworkers on the Iron Range immediately. It was incredibly frustrating watching House Republicans yesterday insist on tying a tax cut for big corporations to this critical economic assistance. Families in our region are hurting, and many are approaching four months with no family income. Making this so political is both unprecedented and unconscionable.”
