ST.PAUL – The Parks & Trails Council of Minnesota has recognized Rep. Alice Hausman as a Legislator of Distinction for her work securing significant investments in state parks and trails.
As past Capital Investment committee chair, Rep. Hausman chief authored bills that infused millions to create, upgrade and improve our parks and trails.
"We invest in Minnesota parks and trails for tourism, conservation, and health benefits,” said Rep. Hausman. “Additionally, there is a huge positive economic impact on our state from these investments."
Below is an excerpt of remarks made at the ceremony by Parks & Trails Council of Minnesota executive director Brett Feldman:
“As chair of the Capital Investment Committee, Rep. Hausman was the chief author of the two largest investment packages that Minnesota's state parks and trails have received in a generation. In 2008 her work secured $57 million worth of investment in Minnesota's parks and trails, including the establishment of the newest state park at Lake Vermilion.
And in 2014, despite facing stiff pressure to cut projects from a bonding bill, Rep. Hausman was resolute in securing $32 million for state parks and trails, including nearly $18 million to continue the development of 13 different state trails throughout Minnesota. That historic 2014 bonding bill also included $14 million for development at Lake Vermilion State Park and $22 million for local parks and trails throughout the metro and Greater Minnesota.”
The award plaque singled out Rep. Hausman for her “leadership in saving Minnesota’s special places.”
