Statement from House DFL Leader Paul Thissen on February Budget Forecast

Friday, February 26, 2016

SAINT PAUL, MINN – This morning the Office of Minnesota Management and Budget announced a forecast balance of $900 million for the FY 2016-17 biennium, a reduction from the $1.2 billion forecasted last December. House DFL Leader Paul Thissen released the following statement:

“The economic forecast shows Minnesota’s economy and budget remain stable, but the outlook is uncertain.

The message of this forecast is that our relentless focus this session must be on providing opportunity for those ordinary Minnesotans who continue to be squeezed by an economy that has not been working for everyone. Whether it’s addressing the skyrocketing cost of prescription drugs, or tackling our student debt crisis, or ensuring every Minnesota family and business has access to high-speed Internet, we owe it to Minnesotans to move forward with an agenda that truly responds to the economic challenges they face on a daily basis.

If we listen to Minnesotans instead of the wealthy special interests, I am optimistic we can move forward with an agenda this session that creates more opportunity and a better chance at success for all Minnesotans.”
