ST.PAUL – State Representative Alice Hausman has been named the "Homes for All" 2015 Housing Champion. Homes for All is a statewide campaign of over 150 organizations that work to increase resources for affordable housing and supportive services. As the chair of the House Capital Investment committee in 2014, Rep. Hausman secured $100 million in bonds for affordable housing. In 2015, serving as the committee's minority lead, she successfully advocated for $10 million. Rep. Hausman has been instrumental in helping Homes for All secure almost $200 million for housing and services since 2012.
“I’m honored to be the recipient of this award,” said Rep. Hausman. “The most significant component of a productive life is to have access to stable housing. The state has been able to help thousands of Minnesotans, including many children, know the security of having a roof over their heads.”
Previous investments have helped to make progress in ending homelessness, according to Homes for All.
- In the 2015 HUD Point-in-Time Count, Minnesota saw a 10% decline in homelessness, the first decline since 2011.
- The largest declines were in families with children and veterans. The state is on pace to end veteran homelessness by the end of 2016.
- Since 2011, Minnesota Housing has awarded $425 million to finance the construction or preservation of nearly 15,000 units of housing across the state.
Rep. Hausman will chief author the 2016 Homes for All bonding bill, which includes $130 million in bonding and expands eligible uses for senior housing.
