Legislative Update - November 24, 2015

Tuesday, November 24, 2015

Greetings from Moorhead,

The Minnesota Olmstead Implementation Office recently announced available opportunities for folks with disabilities to get involved with the Olmstead Plan. The opportunities are for people to volunteer as trainers and help with education of the Olmstead Plan in Minnesota, as well as the office’s Community Engagement Plan.

The Olmstead Plan came about after a 1999 United States Supreme Court case ruling that states must work to end unnecessary segregation of people with disabilities and to ensure those with disabilities have access to services in the most integrated setting appropriate to their needs. The United States District Court approved Minnesota’s Olmstead Plan in September of this year. Now the Olmstead Implementation Office is getting ready to educate more people about the plan across Minnesota.

For more information, please visit this site (for specific information about the volunteer training opportunities, please click on the “Participate” link at the top of the webpage). Folks who are interested may also call Tristy Auger, of the Olmstead Implementation Office, at (651) 296-8081 or send an email to MNOlmsteadPlan@state.mn.us. For more information about the Olmstead Supreme Court case, please go to http://www.ada.gov/olmstead/index.htm.

Thank You for the Opportunity to Serve,
Ben
