Rep. Raymond Dehn's Statement on Fourth Precinct Shootings

Tuesday, November 24, 2015

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – In the days since the tragic shooting of Jamar Clark, protesters have peaceably assembled at the Fourth Precinct in Minneapolis. Last evening, five peaceful demonstrators were shot by outsiders who had been part of groups harassing protesters the last several days.

Rep. Raymond Dehn (DFL-Minneapolis) issued the following statement:

“I’ve personally witnessed outsiders engaged in escalating the situation at the Fourth Precinct and am deeply troubled that they shot five people last night. Today has been yet another day of sadness for our community. I grateful to the police and first responders for their response to the scene, and quick apprehension of two of the possible suspects in this case. I pray that those who were shot recover quickly.

“I find it offensive that people unaligned with the peaceful protesters have explicitly come into our community with the sole intention of escalating things with the police and harassing peaceful protesters. Their actions are completely anathema to the message and goals of those protesting.

“It’s my hope that we will all come together to return our focus to making progress on the issues we’ve been working on for decades. Our community will withstand the actions of a few outsiders intent on disrupting the progress we’ve been fighting so hard for.”
