Legislative Update

Friday, September 25, 2015

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

On Wednesday, September 23rd, I met with Governor Mark Dayton for a ceremonial bill signing for my legislation that protects Minnesota National Guard voting rights should they be deployed during an election.

This new law, which the governor signed earlier this spring, expands the existing special procedures for absentee voting by members of the military and other citizens residing overseas to include members of the Minnesota National Guard. This will help ensure that our state's military members are not disenfranchised while deployed.

It was wonderful to work with Secretary of State Steve Simon, Governor Dayton and legislators on both sides of the aisle on this important initiative this session, and I am pleased it was signed into law. Our state has a proud tradition of high voter participation, and this new law will continue that legacy, making voting more accessible to our active military.
