Legislative Update (9-11-15)

Friday, September 11, 2015

Dear Neighbors,

Today, we pause to reflect upon and remember the attacks that occurred on September 11th, 2001. On that day, terrorists attacked our nation, looking to destroy our way of life. The images of burning buildings, smoke filled streets, and first responders running into collapsing buildings are forever etched in our memories.

I remember I was in school when the attacks began, and at the time I did not understand the significance of the events. Not too long after watching news coverage of the attacks on TV, someone in the school made a decision to turn off all televisions and not let students see what was going on. Perhaps they wanted to shelter us from the horror, perhaps a parent or two called in, perhaps they simply wanted us to focus on our lessons, nevertheless it became clear very quickly that this meant our nation was at war.

The individuals who perpetrated these attacks against our nation that day sought to take away our way of life—instead they brought our nation closer together as a strong sense of patriotism and duty quickly emerged following the attack.

For the men and women who bravely responded that day as well as the thousands who have served our nation overseas as we responded to these callous attacks, thank you for your sacrifice and service to our country.

Please remember to keep our servicemen and women in your thoughts and prayers as we remember September 11th.
