Legislative Update (8-27-15)

Thursday, August 27, 2015

Dear Neighbors,

I hope that your summer is going well and that you have had time to spend with family and friends!

This past week, I toured the Anoka County Regional Treatment Center to hear from workers and administrators about their programs and facilities. The Anoka County Regional Treatment Center is one of the best facilities in the state and I am committed to ensuring that both patient and employee safety and wellbeing are the top priority.

The Great Minnesota Get Together

As we approach the end of August, it is time once again to prepare for the Minnesota State Fair. This year’s fair begins August 27 and runs through Labor Day, September 7th. I strongly encourage you to attend, if you are able.

If you do indeed make the trip to St. Paul, please be sure to stop by the House of Representatives booth located in the Education Building (near the main entrance to the fair). Visitors to the both will have the opportunity to speak with legislators, learn about the legislative process, and take a survey consisting of questions regarding current legislative topics. If you happen to be there tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 28, I will be at the booth from 12-3PM - be sure to stop by and say hi!

Planned Parenthood Updates

Like many of you, I am appalled at the Planned Parenthood videos that have come to light over the past several weeks. As a lawmaker and someone who is an unwavering pro-life supporter, I have been doing everything in my power to ensure that Planned Parenthood here in Minnesota is investigated and that taxpayer money no longer goes towards this organization.

Last Saturday, I joined nearly 4,500 individuals and several legislators at a pro-life rally at Planned Parenthood in St. Paul. It was amazing to see such a strong showing of support from citizens and legislators alike. Thanks to those of you that took the time to attend this rally and thank you for your commitment in standing for life.

Also, thank you for all the prayers and encouragement as my colleagues and I continue to urge the Governor and Attorney General to investigate Planned Parenthood. Your support is greatly appreciated. I also know many of you have attended some of the rallies, and wanted to share with you information regarding the next one: On Wednesday, Sept. 9, there will be a Rally at the Governor's mansion, 1006 Summit Avenue in St. Paul. The rally is set to begin at 4PM and last until 5:30PM.

If you are able to attend, please be respectful of the neighborhood and neighbors who live near the Governor’s residence. I hope to see you there!

Ramsey Happy Days

It's almost that time again! On Saturday September 12, Ramsey will host a variety of fun events—including a 5K in the morning, parade mid-day, and live music at night. This event guarantees fun for the whole family and I would love to see you there! For more information, see: http://www.cityoframsey.com/happy-days.

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s update. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or comments regarding anything related to state government. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-1729 or via email at rep.abigail.whelan@house.mn.

Sincerely,
