Statement from Rep. Lueck re: Cuyuna Country State Rec. Area

Wednesday, August 12, 2015

ST. PAUL – Members of the House Capital Investment Committee are meeting with local officials at the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area Thursday to receive information regarding a $4.2 million bonding request to upgrade the site, one of the nation's premier destinations for bicyclists.

Rep. Dale Lueck, R-Aitkin, is a strong advocate for the proposed project, which includes work to improve the trail system and upgrade the attendant facilities that will support both local use of the park and also will allow supporting regional, national and eventually world-level mountain bike competitive events. The Cuyuna Mountain Bike Trail System currently includes 30 routes across 800 acres.

"The mountain bike trail system is just one of many great attractions the Cuyuna Country State Recreational Area has to offer." Lueck said. "We need to take what is already a regional and rapidly becoming a national destination to the next level. That is what this project is intended to do."

The Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area offers swimming, fishing, scuba diving, kayaking, camping and many other activities in addition to what are reported as some of the very best mountain bike trails in the country.
