St. Paul, MN—On August 18, 2015, the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs and the Minnesota Department of Administration announced a new state-level certification for Minnesota veteran-owned small businesses, giving them an up to 6 percent preference for state procurement and construction bids.
Representative Bob Dettmer (R-Forest Lake), Chair of the House Veterans Committee, has been working on this issue for ten years and authored the legislation that allowed it to become law.
He released the following statement regarding this new state certification:
"Veterans have served our country admirably, and as a state, it's our turn to help them. Minnesota's new veteran-owned small business certification program cuts through burdensome red tape, and is a great step forward that will increase economic opportunities for our veterans. I am pleased this state level certification process has been implemented, and I will continue to advocate for veteran friendly state policy that benefits our military men and women."
