ST. PAUL, MINN— On August 12, 2015, North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem announced that effective immediately, North Dakota will recognize all Minnesota permits to conceal and carry in their state. Similarly, Class 1 licenses issued in North Dakota will be recognized in the state of Minnesota.
Legislation authored by Representative Dan Fabian (R-Roseau) and passed into law this year allowed for this reciprocity agreement between the two states, removing the requirement in Minnesota that another state's permit to carry must be substantially similar. The word substantially was removed from statute.
"This is great news for folks who live in Northwest Minnesota, and it will simplify conceal and carry laws for people who often travel back and forth across state lines," said Rep. Fabian. "This simple change to state statute is something I have been working on since 2013, and I'm pleased that a reciprocity agreement has finally come to fruition. I will continue to stand up for our Second Amendment rights, and the people and common sense priorities of our community."
