Let Public Participate in 2016 Session, Speaker Daudt

Thursday, October 8, 2015

SAINT PAUL, MINN. – Last Friday, the Minnesota Department of Administration released a memo detailing significant challenges associated with holding the 2016 session in the State Capitol. According to the memo, there will be no access for the public to attend House floor session. There will be no operating restrooms or running water in the Capitol. And there will be little to no public space available to individuals or groups seeking to hold events or contact their legislators while they are debating bills and passing laws on the House Floor.

House DFL Leader Paul Thissen sent a letter to Speaker Daudt today urging that he consider options that would allow public to more easily participate in the 2016 session.

Thissen encourage Speaker Daudt “to look again at other options for the 2016 legislative session that will at least provide the public with some measure of access to their elected representatives and the legislative process.”
