Legislative Update - August 3, 2015

Monday, August 3, 2015
Dear Neighbor,
Summer is flying by, and I hope you are finding time to enjoy the beautiful weather with friends and family. I have been busy meeting with many groups in our community, recently touring the Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District, attending the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life at Eden Prairie High School, and visiting with seniors at the Edendale Senior Residence.
Also appreciate the great conversations I am having with many of you as I knock on your doors to share my end-of-session report. Hearing from local residents is vital to ensure that all of our voices are heard at the Capitol, and I appreciate the feedback I’ve received from many of you.

New Laws
Many new laws went into effect on July 1 and August 1, as July 1 marks the beginning of the state’s fiscal calendar. To read more about the new laws, please follow these links:

WESA Women Entrepreneurs Pilot Program
Last session, I was proud to author the Women’s Entrepreneur’s Act along with Senator Vicki Jensen, as part of the Women’s Economic Security Act (WESA). Thanks to this initiative, WomenVenture in the metro, and the Entrepreneur Fund in Duluth, are ready to start their pilot programs to encourage and support women entrepreneurs in high-growth, high-revenue businesses. Finance & Commerce recently published an article with more information.

National Night Out
Tuesday, August 4 is National Night Out. National Night out is held the first Tuesday in August in neighborhoods across the country to celebrate a commitment to our safe communities. To find your local celebration, follow these links:

Please follow this link for events in Eden Prairie: Eden Prairie Events
Minnetonka Events are in the document attached to this email.

Please get in touch with me anytime to share your views. I appreciate hearing from you! As always, thank you for the honor of representing you at the Capitol.

Best,

Yvonne Selcer
