Statement from Representatives Denny McNamara and Dan Fabian on Governor's Executive Order Creating MPCA Advisory Committee

Tuesday, August 4, 2015

ST. PAUL, MINN— On August 4, 2015, Governor Mark Dayton announced his executive order creating an advisory committee for the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. Representative Denny McNamara (R-Hastings), Chair of the Environment and Natural Resources Policy and Finance Committee, and Representative Dan Fabian (R-Roseau) released the following statement regarding this executive order:

"We are disappointed with Governor Dayton's executive order to recreate an activist board at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), a mere two months after he signed a bipartisan bill to eliminate this unelected board. Farmers and businesses deserve certainty from state government, and this executive order is a disincentive for investment and business expansion in Minnesota.

House Republicans stand with farmers and the people of Greater Minnesota who worked to reform the MPCA this year, streamlining an often drawn out and burdensome permitting process. We value the people of Minnesota's input which is why a public comment period is built into the permitting process.

This session, we spearheaded a bipartisan effort to help Minnesota farmers, funding Avian Flu relief, investing in agriculture education and protecting citizens from an expensive, one-size-fits all buffer zone proposal. We will continue to stand up for agriculture in our state, regardless of maneuvers made by the governor that attempt to overstep legislative intent and the will of the people."
