Legislative Update (July 17th, 2015)

Friday, July 17, 2015

Neighbors,

This past Sunday marked the end of this summer’s Maple Grove Days. Thanks to all the volunteers, event organizers, and sponsors who played a part in making this community celebration such a success!

It was a busy week as I attended a number of events around the community.

On Monday I participated in Barnes and Nobles’ To Kill a Mockingbird read-a-thon. The read-a-thon was taking place to celebrate the release of Harper Lee’s new book, Go Set a Watchman. Lee is the author of To Kill a Mockingbird.

Thanks to those of you who came out to Barnes and Noble for the read-a-thon!

This past Tuesday, I was invited to give a legislative update at a breakfast event hosted by the Maple Grove Rotary Club. I gave members an update on a number of initiatives the legislature passed this session to ensure Minnesota’s business climate remains competitive and thriving. Thanks to the Maple Grove Rotary Club for the invitation!

It was an honor to speak at the Maple Grove Rotary Club’s breakfast event this past week

On Wednesday I took part in a panel discussion sponsored by the North Hennepin Area Chamber of Commerce. A number of local legislators also participated in the panel as we discussed a wide range of topics from this year’s legislative session.

I also wanted to take a moment to offer my congratulations and thanks to Maple Grove city administrator, Al Madsen on his recent retirement. Mr. Madsen has served as Maple Grove’s city administrator for the past 32 years and has overseen Maple Grove’s growth from a small suburb, to one of the largest and most thriving suburbs in the Twin Cities. Congratulations Al and thank you for your years of service to our community!

Please be sure to stay in touch. I would love to visit with you and our neighbors in Maple Grove and Osseo, learning how to better serve you as we reconvene next March. You can reach me via phone at (651) 296-5502, or via email at Rep.Dennis.Smith@house.mn.

Have a great weekend!

Dennis
