Legislative Update (7-17-15)

Friday, July 17, 2015

Dear Neighbors,

An undercover video recently surfaced showing the senior director of medical services at the Planned Parenthood Federation of America allegedly talking about the organization’s participation in tissue donation programs, and the price ranges they charge "per specimen." In the video, she also describes how they are able to harvest targeted organs from a fetus and keep them "intact."

Essentially, the video makes the implication that Planned Parenthood is taking body parts from aborted fetuses and selling them for profit.

As someone who is a strong pro-life advocate, I am already sickened by the fact that abortions are currently taking place. But to now find out that Planned Parenthood, an organization that receives millions of taxpayers’ dollars every year, may be selling the tissue of aborted babies is appalling and grotesque.

I have signed onto a letter, authored by Rep. Peggy Scott (R-Andover), addressed to Governor Dayton asking him to investigate Planned Parenthood and to find out if such practices have been or are being performed locally. Frankly, taxpayers deserve to know if their hard earned tax dollars are being used to sell the tissue of aborted fetuses for profit.

Additionally, I was a co-author of a letter to the editor in today’s Star Tribune, making a similar request to the state’s Attorney General, Lori Swanson. You can read the letter here.

I am fully committed to ensuring that such practices do not occur in Minnesota and will continue to fight for increased protections for the most vulnerable among us.

Sincerely,

Mary
