FLOOD RELIEF BILL PASSES HOUSE, HEADS TO GOV.

Monday, January 26, 2015

ST. PAUL – Legislation Rep. Jim Knoblach, R-St. Cloud, authored to provide flood relief funding throughout Minnesota passed the Minnesota House with wide bipartisan approval Monday.

The package (H.F. 164/S.F.1) provides $74 million in all, with $17 million in state funding to match more than $50 million in federal funding for recovery efforts in response to last summer’s flooding. The assistance will be directed to 47 Minnesota counties and three Indian reservations.

“Local governments needed prompt action from us so they have certainty in conducting the bidding process and firming up contracts in time for the spring construction season,” said Knoblach, who chairs the House Ways and Means Committee. “I am pleased we could help them in a timely fashion and it was good to see such strong bipartisan support for this bill in the House.”

The bill received final approval from the Senate last week and now is in the hands of Gov. Mark Dayton for his action.
