Legislative Update

Friday, June 12, 2015

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I am happy to report that the legislature and Governor Dayton have come to an agreement, and special session started at 10:00 AM.

As you may recall, late last month, the governor vetoed three bipartisan bills relating to education, jobs and energy, and environment. We have now reached agreement on those bills including issues related to education funding, environmental reform and county audits. I am pleased that the governor has agreed to call a special session, because Minnesotans expected us to come here to work together on behalf of our constituents. Additionally, it will ease the mind of 9400 state employees who would have been laid off July 1 in the event of a state government shutdown.  Finally, completing our work will mean a number of meaningful reforms will become law, ensuring government is more efficient, effective and working for the people of Minnesota.

I am proud of the bipartisan work we have done this session in the legislature. I will send you more updates after special session is completed with additional details about our final agreement.

In the meantime, I hope you and your family are enjoying the summer!

As your voice in St. Paul, if I can be of any assistance to you or your family on a matter of state government, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Kelly
