State Representative Carlos Mariani Receives Francisco Rosales Award

Friday, April 17, 2015

SAINT PAUL – This evening, Rep. Carlos Mariani will receive the Francisco Rosales Award from Academia Cesar Chavez (ACC), a charter school in Saint Paul noted for its innovative dual-language education programs that prepare elementary students to be bilingual, bi-literate, and successful in their academic careers.

“I’m absolutely honored and humbled to receive this award from ACC.  I’ve known them for years and they’ve made such a difference to the many children who’ve walked through their doors,” said Mariani.  “Their education strategies are the model for a powerful and innovative next-generation approach to language education in our schools.”

The award is named after Chicano Rights and West Side community leader Francisco Rosales.  It is given yearly to individuals who demonstrate a consistent commitment to social justice and education in the Latino Community, and for their ongoing support of ACC’s efforts to prepare the next generation of Spanish speaking leaders.

“Among the many reasons for Carlos’s selection is that he has been a longtime friend and supporter of Academia Cesar Chavez,” said Ramona Rosales, Executive Director and Founder of Academia Cesar Chavez Charter School.
