Rep. Connie Bernardy Statement on $1.9 Billion State Budget Surplus:

Monday, March 2, 2015

“I am encouraged by the news that Minnesota is projecting a budget surplus. Although not everyone is feeling the beginnings of an economic recovery yet, the surplus is a positive sign that our economy is starting to grow again and is headed in the right direction. We need to work together to keep moving Minnesota forward and create an economy that works for everyone. An economy that works for all of us and rewards hard work and fair play is what guides me as I represent Fridley, Spring Lake Park, and New Brighton – the communities in which I grew up. This is a good guide as we make decisions to honestly balance our state budget. About half of the projected budget surplus will be used to cover the cost of inflation. I am hearing from constituents that we need a balanced approach that prepares us for our future. We need to be sure every hardworking Minnesotan can earn a decent living, afford high quality health care, get a great education for their children, and retire with security. In the end, I hope we will come together with a balanced package that plans for a rainy day, creates a state economy that is built to last, and will continue to keep moving Minnesota forward.”
