Deputy Minority Leader Erin Murphy’s Statement in Support of Governor Dayton

Tuesday, May 19, 2015

Saint Paul, Minnesota – House DFL Deputy Minority Leader Erin Murphy released the following statement following Governor Dayton’s announcement that he will veto the E-12 Education bill.

“I stood in support of Governor Dayton when he threatened to veto the education bill and I stand with him today as he fulfills that pledge. It’s our constitutional duty to ensure children have opportunities to learn in Minnesota. Public education is how we create Minnesota’s current and future leaders, inventors, scientists and teachers.

It’s unfortunate that House Republicans refused compromise offer after compromise offer, but today we can begin anew with a negotiation that results in a durable commitment to our kids with access to Pre-K, to closing the achievement gap and to ensuring a bright future for Minnesota.

Shortchanging our children isn't what I was sent here to do and thanks to the Governor’s veto, we don’t have to do that.”
