Saint Paul, Minnesota – House DFL Leader Paul Thissen released the following statement:
“The Minnesota Department of Health is working around the clock to address the avian flu crisis. They have concluded that consuming turkey is safe for Minnesotans.
This is a serious issue for farmers and for all Minnesotans. No one should make light of it. The most important thing this legislature can do right now is immediately take up the bill that would provide the funds requested by Governor Dayton to adequately respond to the avian flu crisis. It should not get tied up as a bargaining chip in end of session negotiations. We will give House Republicans another chance to pass the bill tomorrow.
More than anything, Democrats and Republicans standing together to pass this law would show Minnesota farmers that we are serious about responding to the hardships facing their businesses, families, and communities.”
