St. Paul—“Last night the House of Representatives added an amendment to the Omnibus Environment bill that would direct the DNR to immediately begin negotiation with the taconite mining companies concerning lease payments. During this unprecedented period of low prices and a glut of iron ore in the global economy, Iron Range producers must cut costs to remain competitive,” said Representative Tom Anzelc (DFL-Balsam Township).
“We always come back from these slumps and layoffs, but this one feels worse and largely the result of international monetary and trade policies,” said Rep. Anzelc.
