Legislative Update - April 13, 2015

Monday, April 13, 2015
Dear Neighbor,

State of the State

Last week, Governor Dayton delivered the annual State of the State speech. The Governor spoke about the need to invest the state’s projected budget surplus for long-term economic success. He focused on the need for education investments and also in environmental issues such as ag-buffers and water quality.

There is a lot of debate about whether to use the surplus for tax breaks or for investment. As co-chair of the small business caucus, I’m looking forward to working with democrats and republicans to make sure that we create a friendly business climate in Minnesota that allows for small businesses to develop and create jobs and to keep improving our economy. In whatever proposal we put forward, I hope that it strikes a balance between keeping Minnesota competitive and making needed investments in our state.
