Governor Dayton’s bonding priorities include Duluth projects

Tuesday, April 7, 2015

ST. PAUL, MN – On Tuesday morning Governor Mark Dayton released his list of recommendations for 2015 bonding projects.  Included in his list of recommendations were several Duluth projects, including: $6.1 million for asset preservation on the UMD campus, $3.5 million for the Center for Changing Lives, $7.3 million for wastewater infrastructure improvements, $1.4 million for asset preservation on the campus of Lake Superior College, and  $3 million for the Duluth Seaway Port Authority.

“These are important projects for maintaining the foundation of our region’s economic vitality,” said Rep. Jennifer Schultz (DFL- Duluth). “The upgrades these projects will bring to our local college campuses add value to the education our students are receiving.  I appreciate that the Governor shares that vision.”

“If we want to grow middle class jobs, these are the kinds of institutions we should invest in and expand,” said Rep. Erik Simonson (DFL – Duluth).  He added, “Duluth tax payers will also benefit from the support for improving our aging wastewater infrastructure.  These are expensive projects for local communities, and I’m glad to see that Governor Dayton has placed the same high priority on improving infrastructure in Duluth as our local leaders.”
