2013 Interim Update: Disaster relief special session
Governor Dayton and legislative leaders recently announced that the state legislature will meet for a Special Session on Monday, September 9 to provide critical disaster relief for 18 Minnesota counties.
This relief session will continue the tradition of working together in a bipartisan manner to help Minnesotans impacted by natural disasters. Now that the details of the Special Session are finalized, we can move forward with providing our communities the support needed to continue their recovery efforts.
State assistance is needed to secure federal funds, which will pay for 75 percent of costs to repair roads, bridges, buildings, and other public infrastructure damaged by severe storms and flooding earlier this summer. As you may recall, these storms caused the largest power outage in state history!
There was some debate over whether or not to repeal certain tax provisions during the special session, but the agenda has been set to only include disaster relief. While I understand the merits of a more robust agenda, I believe that disaster relief is our main priority and should remain independent of political gains. It’s my hope we can continue making progress as we head toward the 2014 legislative session.
Woodbury Days will be held August 23-25 in Ojibway Park. I look forward to seeing you there and will also be marching in the parade. For more information, visit: http://www.woodburydays.com/default.aspx
