SAINT PAUL, MINN. – After nearly two years of control of the Minnesota House, Republicans will hold a press conference today to criticize MNsure and apparently offer their first plan to address the problem just one month before the election. House DFL Leader Paul Thissen released the following statement:
“Republicans promised to lower health care costs, but they did not deliver. Instead their only solution for the past two years has been to kick 100,000 Minnesotans off their health insurance and give a tax break to big insurance companies. Rather than serve up another round of empty promises at the end of the campaign, Republicans should answer for their inaction:
After two years of control of the Minnesota House, why is this the first time Republicans are presenting a plan?
How did trying to kick 100,000 Minnesotans off their health care help reduce health care costs?
Why did House Republicans block legislation to that would fund a study of options to stabilize marketplace premiums?
How is a tax cut for insurance companies going to benefit families struggling with rising premiums?
Why did Republicans block legislation last session to lower the cost of health care, specifically prescription drugs?
Minnesotans deserve quality health care at an affordable price. The rate increases for Minnesotans buying coverage in the individual market are too high and we should work together to identify solutions and move forward. Election year rhetoric after two years of inaction isn’t the answer.”
