Legislative Update

Legislative Update - November 15, 2017

Dear neighbors,

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. I hope everyone is able to spend time with their family and friends. For me it is always a wonderful time to reflect on what is truly important.

There is no doubt you have probably heard the sexual harassment reports at the Capitol. I am very proud of the people who stepped forward to share their stories. These reports are disturbing and I will do whatever I can to ensure we do what is right. The Minnesota Capitol belongs to every Minnesotan and they should all feel safe and welcome whether they work there or are visiting. Fortunately, others in leadership positions are also taking the situations seriously and will take the necessary actions.  We are addressing a sea-change in our culture – long overdue and much needed everywhere.

Veterans Day

Thank you to all those who serve our county. I was proud to participate in a Veterans Day Service with others in our community to honor the work, dedication and sacrifice from our veterans.

Minnesota Advisory Boards, Councils, and Commissions

There are openings for more than 200 state boards, councils, and commissions which draw upon the expertise of Minnesotans to build a better Minnesota for every person. To see a full list of board, council, and committee openings and apply, visit the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website. Applications are due by Monday, November 27, 2017. I am so grateful that there are so many opportunities for our local community to serve the state. I hope you take a look and apply.

What do you value?

I’ve always thought Minnesota is a great place to live, but I want to know what you think. As your representative, it is my job to listen to you and learn what would improve life for your family and our community. Recently, legislators have crossed the state, listened to Minnesotans and facilitated a dialogue about our shared values and future. It has been a great opportunity to have thoughtful and challenging conversations. People from all walks of life have attended and shared so much about themselves and their communities and I’d love to hear from you.

If you’d like to share what you value and how to move forward to achieve those goals, please take this opportunity to fill out a brief, four question survey.

Woodbury’s Miller Barn

The Woodbury Heritage Society is hard at work to preserve and convert the Miller Barn to a education center to showcase our local history.  I am in full support of preserving the barn and the surrounding 100-acre site. This is an excellent way to celebrate our history, while also providing a place for young people to connect with nature and learn about the families that once lived here. To learn more about the project visit their webpage here.

Thank you so much for reading. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Warmly,

JoAnn
