St. Paul, Minnesota — Governor Dayton and the House of Representatives have both released their bonding proposals for the 2013 legislative session. Bonding provides funding for statewide building and infrastructure improvements and invests in higher education, transportation, housing, economic development, clean water and wastewater systems.
Rep. Yarusso’s proposal for road improvements around the TCAAP site is mentioned explicitly in the Governor’s bonding proposal but not in the House bill. The House bill includes a total of $55 million for local roads and bridges—$10 million more than the Governor’s recommendations.
“Efforts are still underway to secure funding for road improvements around the TCAAP property,” said Rep. Yarusso. “I am hopeful that we will be able to move this important project forward.”
The project must compete with a backlog of other road and bridge repair and improvement projects throughout the state, many of which have been on the “waiting list” for several years.
“With historically low interest rates, now is the perfect time to bond for these improvements,” commented Rep. Yarusso. “Making these investments now will save taxpayer dollars in the long run and improve our state’s infrastructure.”
Additional highlights of the House bill include $103 million for the University of Minnesota, $108 million for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, and investments to protect our natural resources, improve public safety and fund asset preservation. The bill is estimated to create 22,800 jobs.
“This is a jobs bill that will strengthen the local economy,” said Rep. Yarusso. “Passing a robust bonding bill will create jobs and make vital improvements to communities across Minnesota.”
