ST. PAUL, MN – Today, Governor Dayton released his 2013-2014 budget proposal. The state is facing a $1.1 billion budget shortfall and owes an additional $1.1 billion to schools.
State Representative Barb Yarusso (DFL-Shoreview) released the following statement:
“The Governor laid out his priorities to invest in education, reform Minnesota’s tax code and balance the budget. This is a good starting point for many weeks of discussion on how we can create jobs, improve our schools and close the budget gap. I look forward to working on bipartisan solutions to address these issues.
“We need to responsibly balance the budget without borrowing, shifts or gimmicks. The state of Minnesota has faced a budget deficit eight out of the last ten years. It’s time for a new approach that balances the budget in an honest and fiscally responsible way. We will be learning more about the budget proposal in the coming weeks and I encourage you to contact me with your input, comments and questions on how best to move forward.”
