(ST. PAUL – MN.) State Representative Carly Melin’s legislation to fund the Range Regional Airport was heard in the House Transportation Policy and Finance Committee.
House File 1999 appropriates $5,000,000 to the Chisholm-Hibbing Airport Authority to construct, furnish, and equip improvements and betterments at the Range Regional Airport passenger terminal. The project leverages grant funding received from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Shaun Germolus, Executive Director of the Chisholm-Hibbing Airport Authority, testified in support of House File 1999. “The Range Regional Airport serves the needs of the region through commercial airline service, charter airline service and general aviation. The airport's passenger terminal facility is undersized to adequately serve today’s traveling public," said Germolus.
“This is the exact type of project we should be including in the bonding bill because it will create, retain and expand jobs in the region,” stated Rep. Melin. "The Range Regional airport is a key economic engine on the Iron Range that provides business and visitor access to the area."
The bill was laid over for possible inclusion in the omnibus bonding bill. A companion bill, Senate File 1803, is sponsored by State Senator David Tomassoni.
