(ST. PAUL) – State Representative Carly Melin (DFL-Hibbing) welcomed the Hibbing Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class to the State Capitol today. “It is important for local business leaders from my area to have their voices heard by legislators from across the state," said Melin. “My colleagues need to hear about the issues that are important to my constituents, including resource development and job creation. Citizen involvement in government is key to an effective democracy.”
The annual trip is organized by the Chamber to teach area leaders about state government and give them opportunities to interact with their elected officials.
The group met with Rep. Melin, IRRRB Commissioner Tony Sertich, Secretary of State Mark Ritchie and Attorney General Lori Swanson. Governor Mark Dayton hosted the chamber group in his reception room during their tour of the State Capitol. “It was nice to see so many familiar faces,” said Melin. “The Chamber is a key partner in keeping the Iron Range economically strong. I will keep working with them to grow jobs in the Northland.”
