Dear Neighbor,
Yesterday was a good day for Minnesota, since we have a conditional agreement in place to end the current state shutdown. The agreement includes a basic structure, but much work remains before I can provide an overall analysis.
Certain portions remain negotiable and the specifics of the budget are likely to change as work continues throughout the weekend. For instance, I continue to pursue racino revenue as a way to pay back previous K-12 funding shifts and mitigate future ones.
I will keep you posted as the pieces are put into place. We hope enough progress is made over the weekend that the governor will call us back to the Capitol to enact a budget early next week. It is important for us to bring an end to this shutdown as soon as possible.
As we eagerly await the governor's call, I will be meeting with constituents this weekend at Bar-B-Q Days in Belle Plaine. They prepare enough beef to make about 18,000 sandwiches, so there should be plenty of food to go around. Hope to see you there.
Warm regards,
Kelby
