This week legislators received the February budget forecast. This budget forecast indicates a revenue increase of $1.2 billion to the state coffers. This forecast gives legislators a better idea of how much revenue can be expected so that lawmakers can set a state budget.
In the last forecast, it was estimated that state revenues would increase from approximately $30 billion to $32 billion, or about a 6 percent increase. The $6.2 billion deficit that you keep hearing about is because expenditures are automatically set to increase about 28 percent.
I am confident that we will be able to balance the budget and I am confident that there appears to be some improvement in our economy. It is time to get our economy back on track and stop outrageous spending. We need to get Minnesotans back to work This increase of revenue of $1.2 Billion will allow us to spend $32 billion in our budget and refill the states reserves and look for specific tax cuts that will spur on the state’s economy.
Governor Dayton also signed HF 1 authored by Dan Fabian. This bill pertaining to the streamlining of environmental permits will help our job creators build their businesses in Minnesota.
