ST. PAUL – State Representative Joe Schomacker (R-Luverne) said he was pleased with his recent appointment to a Minnesota House study group that will focus on long term care initiatives.
“The chairman of the Minnesota House Health committee wanted to put lawmakers in areas about which they were passionate,” Schomacker said. “As nursing homes and long term care facilities are highly important to my district, I thought it would be important to gain more expertise in this area.”
Schomacker said there are now eight different bipartisan study groups within the Minnesota House Health and Human Services Policy Committee, with three to four lawmakers comprising each group. Schomacker added that each group has been challenged to try and find areas to reform.
With several long term care facilities in his district, Schomacker said he looks forward to this assignment.
“Nursing homes are one of the biggest employers, if not the most important, in southwestern Minnesota,” Schomacker said. “The work performed by these professionals is difficult, and often times thankless. We need to show our appreciation to these folks because the work they perform is critical. The needs of our elderly and disabled would not be met without them.”
