St. Paul- Representative Pam Myhra (R-Burnsville/Savage) introduced legislation Thursday to assist individuals with financial challenges who are looking to lease a vehicle. House File 1381 modifies the timing of the collection of sales tax on used car leases from upfront to periodic.
“Minnesotans who are in the market for used cars generally cannot secure a car loan and do not have the $700 to $1,000 in cash for the upfront sales tax," said Rep. Myhra. “Minnesotans are struggling to make ends meet. For many, a car is critical for getting to work and keeping their job. If the sales tax is collected on a periodic basis, the payments will be much more affordable and viable for hardworking Minnesotans.”
