March 14 Legislative Update

Friends,

Last week was a tremendous week in the Minnesota Legislature. In response to a loud cry from parents and taxpayers for more transparency for settlement agreements using public funds, I introduced House File 2647 to clarify Minnesota Statute on when data can be made public. Also, last week I co-authored House File 2083, "School District Aid Payment Shift Modified". This education omnibus bill provides for the repayment of all the borrowed school funds used to balance last year's state budget. In addition, this bill allows teacher performance to be considered when deciding teacher layoffs. (Currently, it is illegal to consider anything other than seniority.)

Also, it was my honor to speak with a group of about 200 students from Burnsville High School who were in St. Paul visiting the Capitol.

I would like to invite you to join me for "A Day at the Capitol" on Saturday, March 31st. Two tours of the Capitol will be available, the first one from 10:00-10:45am and the second one from 12:00-12:45pm. I will also be available for meetings in my office during both of the tours to answer any questions you might have about my legislative work or any issue of concern to you.
