HOUSE BRIEFS

Email Update - June 14

Dear Neighbor,

Thank you for your continued tracking of my work at the Legislature.

There is no need for Governor Dayton to shut down state government. The Minnesota Legislature prepared and presented the governor with a complete and balanced budget utilizing revenue growth to fund a 6% budget increase.

We accomplished our budget work in a timely manner during the regular session. It was the governor who waited and vetoed our budget bills the day after the Legislature was constitutionally required to adjourn.

The Legislature's budget bills increased funding to our state's top priorities, including a 3.2% increase in K-12 education and an additional $500 million for health and human services. The Legislature's bills also reformed the delivery of services for greater efficiency and future sustainability.

In addition, last Monday evening the Legislature's leadership presented Governor Dayton with another offer to settle three budget areas: K-12 Education, Judiciary, and Public Safety—the three of which comprise half of the total state budget. Despite the Legislature matching the governor's spending goals in those three budget areas, Governor Dayton still refuses to negotiate, instead remaining adamant on a $1.8 billion tax increase.

Please call Governor Dayton at 651-201-3400 and tell him his plan to shut down government is wrong for Minnesota's families and our economy. Also, I encourage you to send our local newspaper a letter to the editor to press the governor to accept the Legislature's complete, balanced, and responsible budget. And finally, please attend my town hall meeting tomorrow evening, June 15th, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the Burnhaven Library west of the Burnsville Center.

Again, thank you for your continued support!

Sincerely,

Pam
