Dear Friends,

The GOP led, Minnesota Legislature presented Governor Dayton with a complete, balanced budget that lives within its means. The budget reversed the unsustainable trend in state spending, reformed the delivery of government services while not raising tax rates or fees. The GOP $34 billion budget met Governor Dayton halfway between last biennium's spending of $32 billion and the Governor's proposal of $36 billion. The budget increased state spending 6 percent by utilizing revenue growth under existing tax law.

In these economic times, any family or business would be grateful to have a 6 percent increase in their budget. And they would make sure those added dollars had the greatest impact. That is exactly what our budget plan did. Our budget increased state spending at the level Minnesotans can afford and prioritized those dollars to the core services our citizens rely upon.

The Governor's veto of the GOP budget shows his lack of willingness to come to a responsible budget solution. This last week the Governor called GOP freshman legislators extreme. However, the only action I see as extreme is forcing a special session and possible government shutdown to raise job-killing taxes to grow state government.

Before closing, I want to wish everyone a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and extend my gratitude to the soldiers, veterans and their families who protect our freedom and strengthen the foundation of our community.

Thank you for staying involved. I will keep everyone updated as we move towards a special session. And again, please have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend.

Sincerely,

Pam
