Dear Friends,

Session is rapidly coming to a close, but as the days countdown we are hard at work to produce a budget solution that does not raise your taxes while cultivating a business environment full of opportunities for job creation. While Governor Dayton proposes $2.4 billion in job-killing tax increases to grow government, I am working with my fellow Republicans to balance the budget without raising taxes. By using an innovative framework for resolving the budget deficit we are bringing structural reforms to government, improving the quality of education in our state, and spurring job creation to put Minnesotans back to work.

As we continue to finish the budget bills, each major budget bill will be completed by the conference committees and immediately posted online for a review period. We intend to vote out all spending bills, pending negotiation with Governor Dayton, by next week.

I am honored to have my bill, A-F Grading of Schools and School Districts (HF 638) included in the K-12 Education Finance Omnibus bill which will be taken up on the floor for final passage next week. Additionally, my bill, Third Grade Literacy (HF 1487) has passed off the floor as the centerpiece of the K-12 Education Reform Omnibus bill. To read an article in the Star Tribune about this pivotal reform, click here.

To protect election integrity, 80% of Minnesotans support requiring photo identification to vote according to a recent Minnesota Poll. Both the House and the Senate voted on and passed SF509. The bill is now in conference committee. I look forward to passing this bill off the floor and standing by the overwhelming majority of Minnesotans who support this issue.

With the final days of session approaching, I am committed to producing a balanced budget that honors Minnesota’s families by not raising taxes. We have set forth a budget plan for Minnesota to lead the nation in economic recovery.

Sincerely,

Pam
