Dear Friends,

As you may have heard, Charlie Crichton, my first campaign chair, friend, neighbor, and the longest serving member of the Burnsville City Council, died Sunday, March 13th. I attended his memorial service last Thursday, March 17th and was privileged to speak during the program. Charlie will be fondly remembered for his warm smiles, big hugs, fiscal conservatism, and sound advice; he will be greatly missed.

Last week my bill, House File 638-1, A-F grading of schools and school districts, was passed by the Education Reform Committee and was laid over by the Education Finance Committee for inclusion in the Education Omnibus bill. The bill was modeled after Florida legislation, which has resulted in significant learning growth among all student groups in Florida. School grading will be based equally on student proficiency and learning growth. The bill provides recognition awards to schools receiving an A grade, schools improving one or more letter grades from the previous year, and schools improving two or more letter grades over the two preceding years. Many thanks to Paul Zunker, Becky Renfroe, Joe Nathan, PhD. and Jim Bartholomew, from Minnesota Business Partners, who testified before the Education committees in support of my bill.

This Saturday, March 26th, I will be hosting my "Day at the Capitol.” The event will start at 11:00 AM in the State Office Building in room 500 south. A light lunch will be provided as well as a tour of my office the historic Capitol building. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to my Legislative Assistant, Mitzi Ellis, at Mitzi.Ellis@house.mn or call 651.296.9895. Free parking is available. I hope you will be able to attend!
As always, thank you for following my legislative work.
Sincerely,
Pam
