Friends,
Last Tuesday Governor Mark Dayton revealed his budget plan for Minnesota. His plan calls for a $4.1 billion tax increase, which would result in Minnesota having the highest and third highest personal income tax rates in the nation. Additionally, the Governor’s budget expands government and increases spending 22% over current levels.

The record breaking tax increases in the Governor's proposed budget will not drive our state economy forward, but will bind, rather than unleash the entrepreneurial spirit of small businesses and job-creators. Minnesota should lead the nation in innovation and reform - not higher taxes.
While states across the nation are reigning in out-of-control spending, Governor Dayton's budget proposes to increase spending to unsustainable levels. Governor Dayton's proposed budget sends the wrong message to the global marketplace. To ignite the economy and spur job growth, state government needs to demonstrate fiscal discipline by limiting spending and exercising restraint on burdening job-creators with record breaking tax increases.
Last Thursday the House passed House File 9/Senate File 4, which repeals the nuclear moratorium. With the rising costs of energy, the continued strain on Minnesota families can be alleviated by allowing the use of nuclear power. Nuclear power is a safe, environmentally friendly and cost-effective competitive solution to the rising costs of energy. This legislation brings affordable energy into our homes, and high quality, sustainable jobs to our community. This legislation does not mean a new nuclear plant will appear tomorrow—but without lifting the ban, the discussion process cannot even begin. Repealing the moratorium can help make Minnesota a leader in developing America’s clean energy future.
