Dear Friends,
Last week I saw some vitally important work accomplished by the Minnesota Legislature.
On Wednesday following Governor Dayton's State of the State Address, where he shared his vision for more spending and higher taxes, the House reconvened to pass the conference committee report of the Early Action Budget bill. The bill took immediate action to reduce the State's projected budget deficit by $900 million. It was fiscally responsible, prevented some automatic increases, and sent a clear message to state agencies to stop additional discretionary spending. Unfortunately, the governor vetoed the Early Action Budget bill on February 10, 2011.
On Thursday of last week, the Minnesota House, with bi-partisan support, passed two essential bills to address jobs and education reform: House File 1 streamlines and expedites the permitting process while still protecting the environment; Senate File 40 provides alternative pathways for teacher licensure to highly qualified professionals while requiring a stringent preparation, testing, and review process.
Please do not hesitate to write or call, if you have ideas, comments, or concerns you would like to share with me.
Sincerely,
Pam
