Dear Neighbors,
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic…”
This is a portion of the oath taken by all upon entry into the Armed Forces. It is an oath dedicated to supporting and defending the ideals and precepts of freedom found within our Constitution, at any cost up to, and including, one’s own life.
Far too often, the nation as a whole takes for granted the freedoms all Americans enjoy. We are the beneficiaries of the legacy of liberty that was paid for with the lives of over 1,300,000 other Americans since 1775. Collectively, we remember them all on one special day: Memorial Day.
Memorial Day is observed on Monday, May 28 this year. I invite area residents to attend one of many local Memorial Day services.

Our military forces fought and died in every part of this world – on land, sea, and in the air.
Solemn remembrance is appropriate on this day when the nation’s colors fly at half staff in honor of those lost, and then at noon, are raised to full staff to honor living veterans, symbolizing the persistence of our nation in the face of loss.
Please join me on Monday by remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our many freedoms.
Keeping my commitment to you,
Kathy
