HOUSE BRIEFS

E-Mail Update: Tax Relief and Job Creation Act Part II

Dear Neighbors,

Tonight’s floor debate is likely to be the last of the 2012 Legislative Session.

Although all attention is turned to the Vikings stadium bill, the House today passed legislation that will create more jobs for Minnesotans than the stadium or bonding bills combined.

The original Tax Relief and Job Creation Act passed earlier this week was vetoed by Governor Dayton. Nevertheless, we remained determined to fight for small businesses and private sector investment in Minnesota. With the second version of the Tax Relief and Job Creation Act, the Legislature voted to:

Freeze the current rate of the statewide tax on business property for one year.
Permanently provide an upfront sales tax exemption on capital equipment purchases for small businesses with less than 51 employees, starting in FY 2013.
Increase the Angel Investment Credit by 4.5 million for 2012, and enhances efforts to push more investment to Greater Minnesota.
Increase the R&D tax credit for Minnesota companies to help make Minnesota a more attractive place to do business and enable companies to create high-paying jobs.
Incentivize businesses to hire unemployed veterans by instituting a veteran’s jobs tax credit.
Provide for the Mall of America expansion project, estimated to create 7,000 construction jobs and 3,000 permanent jobs.
If you are a main street business suffering under one of the worst tax climates in the nation, please call Governor Dayton and ask him to support this legislation. He can be reached at 651-201-3400, or fill out a form here.

We are also awaiting the governor’s signature on our bonding bill, which contains my provision endowing the City of Oak Park Heights with $1.4 million to help alleviate the costs associated with the St. Croix River Crossing bridge replacement project. If Governor Dayton vetoes this bill, the city will pay disproportionate and burdensome funds for the project. Please contact his office if you are a taxpayer who will be affected by a veto!

It is a pleasure and a privilege to serve as your state representative. Please feel free to contact me at any time. My door is always open to the priorities of our area.

Keeping my commitment to you,

Kathy
