Dear Neighbor,
As we enter the final weekend of the 2011 regular legislative session, the Governor remains adamant on a $1.8 billion dollar tax increase and is preparing to bring our state to a special session and possible government shutdown. I sit here with my legislative colleagues having already passed a balanced budget that keeps government spending within its means while using the 6% revenue increase under existing tax levels to fund core services and protect priorities.
Three billion in new revenue should be more than enough. As a fiscal conservative, I believe a 6 percent increase provides state government with the right amount of revenue necessary to fund needed programs and the services our citizens rely upon. Our budget puts a stop to unsustainable spending. It moves forward to create a state where businesses grow jobs and thrive, where families have confidence in our economy and community institutions, and where our children wake up every day to a brighter Minnesota. That's what our budget plan does, and I hope the Governor will recognize and act on the needs of our people.
As we continue the final weekend, I encourage you to watch my video update on the Health and Human Services bill, which reduces projected spending increases by 13 percent while providing $570 million more than the current biennium. It enacts reforms to make our system accessible, sustainable and continue Minnesota's leading health care legacy.

Stay tuned and stay informed! Together we can bring responsibility back to government and job growth back to Minnesota!
Sincerely,
Kathy
