Passage of Marriage Amendment a Sad Day in Minnesota
Saint Paul, Minnesota – Regarding the passage of SF 1308, a bill that would place the issue of writing into the State’s constitution that marriage is a union between a man and a woman, on the ballot for popular vote, State Representative Rena Moran issued the following statement:
“I cannot imagine a more unfortunate day in Minnesota’s recent history, then what has transpired this evening. Passage of this bill misrepresents the warm and loving character of the Minnesota I have come to love so dearly.
Any measure that would seek to deny rights to few is an act that threatens the rights for all. As such, it is our moral obligation to work
Despite the ugly this issue will surely bring from forces outside of our state that will seek to divide us along an issue of equality and fundamental rights, I have a hope. I have a hope that Minnesota will reject this amendment, embracing the differences that unite us and recognizing the humanity that exists in us all."
