We had an incredibly busy week in St. Paul, with various committee meetings and bill deadlines we have worked late nights to try and complete much of our work.
The taxes bill continues to be discussed in committee. This bill, also known as the jobs bill will benefit small business owners and homeowners. Some of the bills highlights include providing targeted relief to homeowners equal to 90 percent to any tax increase over 12 percent for pay 2012 only. This bill also increases the angel investment credit and it may increase the research and development tax credit. This bill also provides a jobs credit for businesses hiring qualified veterans.
On Thursday the House passed a bill that would allow for the state to continue paying back the education shift. This bill would take money from our budget reserves to pay back the additional 10 percent we borrowed in 2011 and it would also begin to pay back the 30 percent borrowed by the previous legislature.
With this bill we are putting kids first in Minnesota; this bill will help to pay our schools back faster and will enable them to provide for our kids the tools they need to succeed.
Don’t forget to follow our reform bills online! Each of our reform bills that are being introduced in the legislature this year are posted at www.reform2.mn. There you can track each bill and read about the ways that the MN House of Representatives is reforming government.
If you haven’t already taken my legislative survey, I would encourage you to participate.
