This week property tax relief was introduced to provide refunds for commercial building owners. House File 1914 was heard in the House Property Tax Committee on Wednesday.
Transportation bills are being heard this week as well. Representative Beard has introduced a couple bills that would provide for toll lanes in Minnesota.
In the House Education Reform Committee Representative Peterson introduced a bill that would allow for a teachers leave of absence or discharge to be based upon teacher evaluation outcomes.
On a more serious note, Speaker of the House, Kurt Zellers and House Majority Leader, Matt Dean sent a joint letter to Governor Dayton this week urging him to reverse the decision made by the Health and Human Services Commissioner Lucinda Jesson to release Clarence Ophiem, a convicted sex offender.
Mr. Ophiem is responsible for committing nearly 100 sex offenses with nearly 30 victims, some of which were as young as 11-years-old. Mr. Opheim was assessed by a state special review board just a year ago and they determined that he was “at high risk to commit a future serious sexual offense.”
We need to ensure the safety of Minnesotans and it is our hope that Governor Dayton will do so as well and reverse the decision to release Mr. Ophiem.
